Project Overview

The Aqua Energy Redevelopment will enable the replacement of the 25-metre indoor pool and pool hall, which is 51 years old. There is also greater need for all abilities access to the entire facility, which at the moment is limited to only some areas.

Plans for the redevelopment include:

  • New 7 lane 25 metre pool, pool hall and water treatment system
  • New zero depth indoor water play space
  • New 24hr gym access
  • New wet, dry, schools and family change areas
  • New sauna
  • New on-deck swim school office
  • Refurbished outdoor pool change rooms
  • Environmentally sustainability design improvements

The new development will not only see the 25-metre pool replaced but will improve accessibility and programming opportunities throughout the entire facility.

Improvements captured for all abilities access include ‘Changing Places’ amenities for older children and adults with high support needs. As well as the elimination of all internal ramps and stairs, creating a single level, universally accessible facility throughout.

School and member access to and from the precinct will also be improved with an upgraded entry from the Guthridge Parade car park.

The $23 million facility upgrade has been made possible thanks to the Victorian Government, including $2 million from Local Sports Infrastructure Fund and $10 million from Community Sports Infrastructure Loan Scheme, $950,000 from the John Leslie Foundation, with the remainder of the project funded from Wellington Shire Council. Council is also intending to utilise funds from the Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.
